Nearly four decades deep and still swinging harder than bands half their age, New York alternative metal institution PRONG have just announced their self-titled Napalm Records debut. Simply called Prong, the album arrives November 6 and doubles as both a mission statement and a line in the sand — a reminder that the CBGB-forged crew who helped invent groove metal, industrial metal, and crossover thrash are far from finished redefining the genre they helped build.

Frontman Tommy Victor isn’t mincing words about it either. “This could be the best PRONG album to date,” he says. “It’s definitely the best sounding PRONG album ever, with the incredible Andy Sneap mixing and mastering it! This record represents a new lease on life for PRONG with a new label, a fresh attitude with faster and heavier songs, bigger hooks and top-notch sound quality. That’s why it’s self-titled; it’s a redefining episode for PRONG!”

Across 11 tracks, Prong packs the full arsenal fans have come to expect — and then some. Opener “The Banner” pivots from thrash blasts into wide, melodic choruses, while “New Commission” ratchets the intensity even higher. “The Uprising” resurrects the band’s industrial edge with textured synths and a pulsating two-step, “Uncertain Truth” flexes a genuinely sweet hook, and “Fear The Sun” is a full-on dropkick built for NYHC pit chaos. “Proportionate Response” showcases Victor at his most confrontational, “Simulated Drowning” barrels ahead with blistering kicks, and closer “Our Continuance” ties it all together with a menacing pulse, discordant breakdowns, and a lush synth-swollen chorus. The CD edition also tacks on two bonus tracks: “Out of Body” and a cover of Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer” — because of course PRONG went there.

Andy Sneap’s work at Backstage Studios gives the record a crisp, punchy weight that lets Victor’s biting lyrics land with maximum impact, dragging listeners into meditations on the validity of truth, self-inhibition, and altruism. It’s dynamically bold, ideologically driven, and melodically infectious — the sound of a band leaning into their legacy without ever coasting on it.
