Canadian-Greek metal artist Katerina Nicole isn’t here to play nice, and her latest track proves it. Today, she unleashes “Black on White,” a scorching new single featuring Johnny Ciardullo of Angelmaker and Carcosa — and the result is exactly the kind of vocal blood-sport that heavy music fans live for.

Since dropping her debut EP, Serene in Violent Oceans, Katerina has steadily leaned into a darker, heavier, and more aggressive sonic palette while holding tight to the cinematic, melodic edge that first set her apart. Blending crushing nu metal and metalcore with haunting melodies, gut-punch screams, and confessional songwriting, she’s rapidly cementing herself as one of the most compelling emerging voices in the international metal scene.

“Black on White” is a masterclass in tension. Rather than a conventional guest spot, the collaboration plays out like a full-on confrontation — two voices circling each other, trading blows, refusing to back down.

“This track is my way of processing a truly disgusting situation I found myself in,” Katerina shares. “Having Johnny on it felt less like a traditional feature and more like a confrontation — a stand-off between two voices. That dynamic gave the song an intensity it wouldn’t have had otherwise, making it one of the most powerful tracks we’ve created.”

For Ciardullo, the collab carried an extra layer of full-circle magic. “Working on this song with Kat was an absolute riot. It’s not every day you get to work on a song with someone you went to high school with 10+ years down the road. From the moment I heard the demo, I was excited to work on it and see where we could take it and I’m extremely proud of what it’s turned into.”

Producer Jordan Chase notes that the track came together under the wire — and was all the better for it. “‘Black on White’ was a very late addition to the songs we had already written, but it was an absolute blast to create. We wanted to keep Kat’s signature sound, while also making a home for Johnny’s vocal style. It came together incredibly fast — and thankfully so — because Kat and I only had four hours to finish the final touches on the music and track all of her vocals. Sometimes, having a tight deadline can create real magic.”

Built for the live stage, Katerina Nicole delivers performances that toe the razor’s edge between raw intensity and genuine emotion. On “Black on White,” she and Ciardullo capture that same live-wire energy in the studio, and the visualizer only amplifies it.
