Danny Elfman is back on the road — and this time he is bringing a brand new rock record with him. The former Oingo Boingo frontman, four-time Oscar nominee, and the man responsible for the sound of your favorite Tim Burton fever dreams has just announced a 2026 fall tour in support of a forthcoming new album, with additional details on the project promised soon.

The run kicks off September 7 at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom before rolling through Detroit, Toronto, Boston, Silver Spring, New York’s SummerStage, Philadelphia’s The Met, and wrapping the West Coast leg at San Francisco’s The Masonic. Sprinkled between the headline dates are three of the biggest rock festivals in the country: Shaky Knees in Atlanta, Louder Than Life in Louisville, and Aftershock in Sacramento. Here’s the twist that makes this run especially interesting: the indoor shows are going to be all rock, while the outdoor festival sets will weave in selections from Elfman’s iconic film and television scores backed by a full orchestra and choir. Expect a career-spanning set list that draws from the new album, 2021’s Big Mess, deep cuts from the Oingo Boingo catalog, and pieces from his sprawling solo work — the kind of genre-defying live experience that only someone with a résumé like Elfman’s could pull off with a straight face.

The band assembled for the tour is, frankly, ridiculous in the best possible way. Nili Brosh (Dethklok) and Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails, Guns N’ Roses) handle guitars, Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters) sits behind the drums, and Matt McJunkins (A Perfect Circle, Eagles of Death Metal) locks in on bass. It is essentially a supergroup dressed in Elfman’s clothes.

Elfman’s recent creative streak has been relentless. Beyond scoring Luc Besson’s Dracula: A Love Tale, Gus Van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire, and Sam Raimi’s Send Help, he contributed multiple string arrangements to A$AP Rocky’s chart-topping Don’t Be Dumb, appeared in the “Punk Rocky” music video alongside Winona Ryder and Thundercat, and joined Rocky for a Saturday Night Live performance. Not bad for a guy who has already logged more than 100 film scores and nine classical symphonic works.
