Niko Moon has never been shy about chasing the sunny side of country music, but with his new single “American Dreamin’,” the multi-platinum artist trades poolside optimism for something a little more weathered, a little more true. Out now via EMPIRE, the track is the final release ahead of his forthcoming album ROOTS, due July 17.

Where Moon’s triple-platinum breakout “Good Time” leaned into celebration, “American Dreamin'” pulls the curtain back on where that positivity actually came from. Built on swampy country textures and Moon’s signature staccato, hip-hop-influenced delivery, the song revisits a childhood spent moving from trailers to extended-stay motels, a father who drove trucks, a mother who waited tables after having him at 18, and the quiet, stubborn hope that held the whole thing together.

“My parents were the first example of what positivity looked like to me,” Moon says. “It’s easy to be positive when life is going smooth, but when you’re facing adversity and still choose optimism, that makes a mark on a kid. And it did for me. ‘American Dreamin” is a song about my life.”

Holler, who premiered the track earlier this week, called it “the emotional core of his new album, ROOTS,” praising Moon for shifting the emphasis onto himself and, in doing so, crafting “his most rewarding, moving and resonant listening experience to date.”

ROOTS, the 15-track follow-up to 2025’s AMERICAN PALM, trades that record’s beachside escapism for the woods and red clay of Douglasville, Georgia, where Moon grew up. It’s the same positive thread running through his catalog, just pulled from deeper soil. “American Dreamin'” joins previously released album cuts “Get Country,” “Rich Man” and “Georgia (Roots),” the latter of which interpolates the melody of Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia on My Mind,” made famous by Ray Charles.

Beyond the music, Moon continues to walk the talk through the Happy Cowboy Foundation, the nonprofit he co-founded with his wife Anna to help people access affordable or free therapy, funded in part by proceeds from his Happy Himalayan water company.
