Germany’s post-hardcore standouts Future Palace are about to crash into your summer with their fourth full-length, Resurgence, dropping July 31 via Century Media. And just when you thought the Berlin trio only knew how to hit you with cinematic breakdowns and molten electronics, they’ve gone and written a rock ballad. A gorgeous, gutting one at that.

The band just shared the video for “Tidal Waves,” a song vocalist Maria Lessing calls “probably the most important song I have ever written.” Built around the deep, unbreakable bond between sisters, “Tidal Waves” is the softest cut on an otherwise crushing record — but don’t mistake soft for small. The track swells from a delicate opening into a massive, still-heavy chorus before drifting into a dreamy acoustic bridge that lands like a lump in the throat.

“It was extremely hard for me to write and I have failed to write a good song about this very important topic over and over again these past years,” Lessing shared. “To sum it up: This song is about true love and how it feels. It can be very hard to recognize true love, but I personally found it in the role of being a big sister. Being someone who protects, cares, and always finds the time and patience to be there.”

Lessing added that the song reflects her relationship with her younger sister and the pain they’ve navigated together. “I feel like no one will ever truly understand you like a close sibling does.”

Guitarist Manuel Kohlert notes the track began as a challenge from drummer Johannes Früchtenicht, who wanted a certain kind of ballad. “Challenge accepted,” Kohlert says. “The instrumental was actually very easy to write and came naturally. Compared to the rest of the album this track is by far the softest, yet it builds up to a big, still heavy chorus followed by a dreamy acoustic bridge. All in all, this is our rock ballad.”

Resurgence is billed as a powerful exploration of isolation, inner conflict, and the long, ugly, beautiful process of rebuilding yourself. Blending post-hardcore intensity with cinematic electronics, soaring melodies, and crushing breakdowns, the record dives into depression, doubt, and emotional transformation — capturing that fragile moment when despair slowly turns into strength, and proving once again the redemptive power of music.

Future Palace will spend the rest of 2026 tearing through Europe on the massive Deep Blue Tour 2026 with As Everything Unfolds, Luna Kills, and Defences, with festival stops at Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Leyendas del Rock, and a return to the U.S. for Louder Than Life in Louisville on September 20.
