Bo Staloch has always sounded like someone who wandered in from a different era — a 21-year-old with the weathered wisdom of a lifer and the quiet fire of a songwriter who really means it. Today, the Austin-born, Nashville-based artist leans all the way into that old-soul reputation with his stunning new Capitol Records single, “From A Different Age.”

Built on a classic loud-quiet-loud dynamic, the song opens like a wire pulled taut: acoustic pluck, plinking piano, and Staloch’s hushed vocal circling a profound sense of isolation and vulnerability. Then the chorus lands, and every ounce of that stored-up tension detonates. “Quiet is the thinking man,” he nearly shouts over a waltzing full-band swell, Libby Rodenbough’s violin slicing clean through the mix. “I fear I’m losing all my friends / We’re from a different age, we don’t act the same.”

The collaborator list reads like a folk-rock fever dream in itself: Brad and Phil Cook (Megafaun), guitarist Colin Croom (Twin Peaks), drummer Matt McCaughan (Bon Iver), and the aforementioned Rodenbough of Mipso. It’s the kind of room where the players don’t just show up — they push a song somewhere it couldn’t have gone alone.

The timing is no accident. “From A Different Age” arrives one day before Staloch takes the stage at Rolling Stone Stateside, the Fourth of July festival headlined by Noah Kahan in Kingston, New York. He’ll also return to his hometown for Austin City Limits Music Festival in October. Before all that, he wrapped an intimate EU/UK acoustic run with fellow Texan Abby Powledge, a tour the pair commemorated last month with their tender live rework of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová’s “Falling Slowly,” recorded in London.

For anyone who has been paying attention — and, judging by the sold-out rooms on his first-ever North American headline run, plenty of people are — this moment has been building. In 2025 alone, Staloch toured with John Vincent III, Houndmouth, and Ashe, opened for Zach Bryan at London’s Hyde Park, and made his Lollapalooza debut. His breakout EP The Garden earned him a reputation as, per Atwood Magazine, “a charged and churning folk-rock fever dream” and one of “folk rock’s next generation.” A steady stream of subsequent singles — “Angelina” with Elie Rizk, “Born To” with Jackson Shanks and Sam Nelson Harris of X Ambassadors, and the Andrew Wells–produced “Eastside” — quietly widened the world he’s been building.

“From A Different Age” feels like the doorway into the next room. It’s more assured, more dynamic, and more emotionally exposed than anything he’s shared to date — the sound of a young songwriter figuring out that the ache and the anthem can live inside the same three minutes.
