Tycho and Sea Lemon Ride “Anotherwave” Into Dreampop Bliss
Some collaborations feel engineered in a boardroom. Others sound like they were pulled straight out of the tide. “Anotherwave,” the new single from 2x GRAMMY-nominated electronic visionary Tycho and Seattle-based dreampop artist Sea Lemon, is very much the latter — a shimmering, submerged piece of music that arrives today via Mom + Pop in the U.S. and Ninja Tune for the rest of the world.
The origin story is as cinematic as the track itself. Tycho’s Scott Hansen first heard Sea Lemon (a.k.a. Natalie Lew) while driving through California’s Central Valley late one night, cueing up her song “Close Up” roughly four times in a row before pulling over to send her demos. “I started imagining Natalie’s vocals on this new song I had been working on,” Hansen recalls. “The lush textures felt like a perfect match.” Lew picked the very track he had her in mind for — always a good omen — and tracked vocals from her home studio. Guitarist Zac Brown rounded out the arrangement, and what began as a sparse, synth-driven sketch bloomed into a full oceanic reverie.
Lew heard it too. “I instantly felt a connection to the underwater-like quality of the sounds and textures,” she says of Hansen’s demo. Her lyrics about being “caught in another wave” became the anthemic refrain that anchors the song. It’s a natural fit: Sea Lemon’s 2025 debut LP Diving For A Prize (Luminelle Recordings) earned praise from KEXP, Under The Radar, Atwood Magazine, and FLOOD — the latter calling it “a dreampop gem” — for exactly this kind of shoegaze-meets-pop world building.
For Tycho, “Anotherwave” continues a hot streak of collaborations that reads like a festival lineup wish list: ODESZA, Maggie Rogers, Little Dragon, Leon Bridges, and Death Cab for Cutie among them. It follows this year’s instrumental “Forge” and 2025’s Paul Banks (Interpol) team-up “Boundary Rider,” and extends the sonic universe of 2024’s acclaimed sixth album Infinite Health, co-produced with Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor.
Fans can also catch Tycho on the road throughout the rest of the year, including a performance at Minneapolis’s MODE by Flickr (September 18-20), a DJ set at Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo River Ranch, BC (July 27), and FORM in Arcosanti, AZ (October 9-11).
