HardDrive Radio with Lou Brutus Marks 30 Years of Hard Rock with All-Star 4th of July Anniversary Special

Thirty years. Roughly 27,000 hours of programming. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 309,000 songs. And, according to the man himself, one thoroughly wrecked set of eardrums. That’s the scoreboard for Lou Brutus as HardDrive Radio prepares to blow out the candles on three decades of hard rock supremacy.

BruteHawke Industries — the media company formed by rock radio lifers Lou Brutus and Randy Hawke — has announced a stacked 30th anniversary special airing over the 4th of July weekend, marking the exact holiday weekend the show first hit the airwaves back in 1996. Distributed by longtime partners United Stations Media Networks/Gemini XIII, the anniversary broadcast will pause the show’s usual diet of the newest and loudest to dig deep into an archive most rock fans would sell a kidney to access.

A HALL OF FAME GUEST LIST

The anniversary special reads like a Mount Rushmore of modern hard rock. Featured archival interviews include Ozzy Osbourne, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, David Draiman of Disturbed, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Jonathan Davis of KoRn, and Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch. That’s not a lineup — that’s a genre-defining playlist of conversations pulled from the vault.

“It’s kinda hard to wrap my head around the fact I’ve been lucky enough to do this for so long,” said Brutus, who has manned the mic since day one. “Someone crunched the numbers and between the weekend HardDrive Radio show, as well as the weeknight HardDrive XL version, I’ve hosted over 27,000 hours of programming with about 309,000 songs. It’s no wonder my hearing is shot.”

30 SONGS FROM 30 YEARS

To further mark the occasion, the team has published the “HardDrive Radio: 30 Songs from 30 Years” list — a curated single-track-per-year snapshot of the show’s three-decade run. The list was assembled by combing through programming history, listener requests, and sales and streaming numbers to nail down the most defining anthem for each year since 1996.

“We have combed through three decades of our own programming and listener requests, as well as sales and streaming numbers, to do our best to find the finest representative tune for each year,” said Randy Hawke, Programming and Content Director for BruteHawke. “No doubt we will be crucified by the internet for our sincere and heartfelt efforts.”

Spoken like a man who has, in fact, met the internet. The full list is available on the HardDrive Radio socials and the show’s website.

NEXT STOP: ROCK FEST IN CADOTT

Once the anniversary confetti settles, the HardDrive Radio crew is rolling straight into Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin, from July 15 through July 18, where Lou Brutus returns as stage host at the legendary destination festival. Expect interview specials with a monster 2026 lineup including The Offspring, Limp Bizkit, Gojira, The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, I Prevail, Chad Gray, Hollywood Undead, Machine Head, Set It Off, Magnolia Park, Lacuna Coil, DED, and Story of the Year, among many others.

“HardDrive Radio and Rock Fest have been joined at the hip for over a decade,” said Brutus. “I would march upon a road of bones to reach those hallowed fields of music. This year’s lineup is insane, and I look forward to destroying what little hearing I still have left.”

A LEGACY OF FIRSTS

For the uninitiated, HardDrive Radio wasn’t just along for the ride during hard rock’s biggest era — it helped build it. The show was first to introduce North America to Slipknot, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, and Godsmack, among others. Brutus and the show were inducted into the Rock Radio Hall of Fame in 2017, and the “Sonic Warrior” himself remains one of the most trusted voices in the genre.

Tune in over the 4th of July weekend to catch the 30th anniversary broadcast, check your local affiliate for airtimes, and follow HardDrive Radio on socials for the complete “30 Songs from 30 Years” reveal. Thirty years in, the volume isn’t going down anytime soon.
