The String Cheese Incident Drops Surprise New Single “Lightning Sky” Ahead of Electric Forest and Red Rocks Run

Leave it to The String Cheese Incident to slide into your summer playlist unannounced. The Colorado-bred jam institution has surprise-released a brand new single, “Lightning Sky,” a warm, storytelling-driven track that arrives just as the band gears up for a marquee weekend at Electric Forest followed by their annual pilgrimage to Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Built in the spirit of 2023’s Lend Me A Hand — the Brad Cook–produced LP that quietly reshaped the band’s songwriting DNA — “Lightning Sky” leans further into the narrative craftsmanship SCI has been sharpening over the last few years. It’s less about pyrotechnics and more about presence: a song that feels like a long drive with someone you love, windows down, memory riding shotgun.

Bassist and songwriter Keith Moseley says the tune was born on the open road. “‘Lightning Sky’ was inspired by a road trip to Oklahoma that my wife Kristin and I took to visit my family,” he explains. “The song leans into the idea of connecting with the wisdom of the spiritual world and honoring family past and present. It is meant to be an homage and a celebration. We hope you enjoy it. Woo hoo hoo!”

That “woo hoo hoo” says it all. This isn’t SCI chasing a trend — this is a band three decades deep, still finding new ways to write songs that mean something to the people singing them back in the crowd.

The timing is no accident. The Just Keep Spinning Tour kicks into high gear this weekend at Electric Forest in Rothbury, MI (June 27), before the band heads home to Colorado for their beloved two-night Red Rocks run on July 17 and 18, with Clay Street Unit opening night one. From there, SCI fans a proper West Coast leg through Utah, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington, then swing back east for August dates spanning Pennsylvania, Cape Cod, Hampton Beach, Delaware, Ohio, Kentucky, and a two-night Campout in the Pines throwdown in Eau Claire, WI alongside Leftover Salmon, Lettuce, Eggy, and Dogs in a Pile.

The fall stretch gets even more interesting. September brings two nights at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, followed by The Moroccan Incident — a three-night destination gathering in Marrakech, Morocco from September 24–26 produced in partnership with Pilgrimage of Sound and Dayglo Presents. October closes the year with Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak, FL.
