The Kody Norris Show Salute America’s 250th With New Album ‘Spirit of America’
Rhinestones, fiddles, and a whole lot of red, white, and bluegrass — The Kody Norris Show has officially dropped their new full-length album, Spirit of America, out today via Rebel Records. Timed to coincide with the countdown to America’s 250th anniversary, the record is a proud, joyful, and unapologetically patriotic tip of the cowboy hat to the everyday people, places, and stories that built this country.
The award-winning group is celebrating the release in the most fitting way possible: with their 10th appearance on the Grand Ole Opry tonight in Nashville. Not a bad way to launch an album about America.
Across 12 tracks, Spirit of America blends the group’s trademark high-powered traditional musicianship with a songbook that honors farmers, truckers, soldiers, coal miners, families, churches, small towns, and front porches. The rollout has already delivered a string of standout moments — the title track “Spirit of America,” the Kody Norris and Larry Chunn co-write “Good Ol’ USA,” a fresh take on Phil Ochs’ folk classic “The Power and Glory,” and Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris’s first-ever instrumental composition, “Declaration of Independence,” which features triple fiddles including Michael Cleveland alongside Ron Stewart on banjo.
“‘Spirit of America’ is our way of tipping our hat to country music, bluegrass music, and everyday people who made us who we are,” shares Kody Norris. “When you think about America at 250 years, you think about big history, but you also think about the farmers, truckers, soldiers, coal miners, families, churches, small towns, and front porches that still carry that history forward. We wanted this album to feel proud, joyful, respectful, and full of life — the way we feel when we get to carry this music across the country every night.”
The album also features “United We Stand,” a new original penned by Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris and Conrad Fisher, plus band takes on “A Purple Heart,” “Back in the Country,” “The Bible on the Table and the Flag Upon the Wall,” “Waving Ol’ Glory,” “Davy Crockett,” “The Battle of New Orleans,” and “Do Unto Others.”
