Minneapolis indie rock outfit Porch Light have officially thawed out 2026 with “Arctic,” their first new single of the year, out now via Mom + Pop. If you’ve been refreshing their Instagram waiting for a follow-up to last year’s Navy Blue EP, congratulations: your patience just paid off in wiry guitars and one very cathartic chorus.

Written during a self-imposed lockdown in a cabin in northern Minnesota during the dead of winter, “Arctic” lives up to its name in atmosphere but burns hot at its core. Vocalist Jackie Uhas delivers the track’s central tension with an urgency that suits the subject matter — the quiet ache of being deeply invested in a relationship while still craving something bigger, more consuming, more alive. It’s the kind of song that captures the emotional grey area most bands avoid, and Porch Light lean all the way in.

“‘Arctic’ was just one of those songs that happened,” the band explains. “We had locked ourselves in a cabin up north in the dead of winter, and this was one of the tracks we left with. Melody comes first, lyrics second.” The result feels loose and lived-in — a freestyle jam sharpened into something that soars.

The single arrives on the heels of a breakout run for the five-piece — Zac Fogarty (guitar), Jackie Uhas (vocals), Henry Hughes (bass), Kyle Siemon (guitar), and Tony O’Keefe (drums) — who famously recruited their frontwoman after catching her singing karaoke at a Minneapolis bar. With a debut album on deck for 2026, Porch Light are spending the summer meeting that fandom face-to-face on one of the most stacked festival runs of the year.
