Little Big Town Team Up With Ashley Monroe on Smoky New Single “Sucker For A Sad Song”

Little Big Town have never been afraid of a good heartbreak, and their latest offering leans all the way into that particular brand of misery with a grin. The multi-platinum, GRAMMY-winning quartet — Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook — have shared “Sucker For A Sad Song,” a smoky, easygoing new single featuring longtime friend and collaborator Ashley Monroe.

Co-written by Fairchild, Monroe, and Shelby Lynne, “Sucker For A Sad Song” opens the band’s forthcoming album It’s A Dying Art, out August 28 via MCA. It’s the kind of tune that struts more than it stomps — clever wordplay draped over a slow-burning groove, with Monroe’s honeyed harmonies slipping in like an old friend pulling up a barstool. Directed by Becky Fluke, the accompanying music video matches the song’s after-hours mood beat for beat.

Produced by two-time GRAMMY winner Gena Johnson (Jason Isbell, Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile) alongside Fairchild herself, It’s A Dying Art is shaping up to be one of the band’s most intimate and human records yet — a project built on imperfection, lived experience, and the kind of trust that only comes from 25-plus years of making music together. The 13-track collection also features collaborations with Jason Isbell on the weathered “The Door,” Kelsea Ballerini on the late-night slow-dance “Closing Time,” and standouts like the fiery “It’s Coming Around” and the visceral “The Idea.”

The band previewed the album earlier this year with “Hey There Sunshine,” which debuted at the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards to widespread praise, followed by the post-breakup gut-punch “Over and Over.” For fans looking to hold something tangible, Little Big Town have also announced an exclusive, signed D2C “Champagne” vinyl variant, available in limited quantities at littlebigtown.com while supplies last.

Live, the group has a stacked calendar ahead. This Saturday, June 27, they’ll take the stage at Alan Jackson’s Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, joining the country legend for the last full-length concert of his touring career. They’ll also appear on the TODAY Plaza on September 1 as part of the Citi Concert Series before launching their Live Nation-produced For The Art Of It Tour on September 24 in St. Petersburg, FL, with stops in Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Toronto, and many more cities through November.
