alan vuong Drops Genre-Bending EP ‘HEAVEN SENT ME’ — San Francisco Headline Show Next
If you’ve spent any time cruising down a Southern California freeway at 3 a.m., you already know the sonic universe alan vuong is building. Today, the 23-year-old Southern California hitmaker — stylized in lowercase, and operating entirely without a label, manager, or distribution deal — has released his most ambitious project to date: the highly anticipated EP HEAVEN SENT ME.
A cinematic, stand-alone sonic-verse, HEAVEN SENT ME is a metaphoric meditation on unrequited love, forgotten dreams, and whispered confessions. It’s the sound of a young artist refusing to be boxed in, weaving 2010s Southern California indie rock and classic ’90s pop into his SoundCloud-era rap roots — sometimes dropping an R&B flow over a post-punk beat just because he can. The result is a set of neon dreamscapes stitched together with dazzling falsettos and hooks that refuse to leave your head.

The nine-track EP includes the streaming juggernauts “DEEP IN YOUR SOUL,” “TELL ‘EM YOU’RE MINE,” and “TOO LATE FOR YOU” — songs that have already helped alan vuong amass over 139 million total Spotify streams before the EP had even officially dropped. “DEEP IN YOUR SOUL” alone has racked up more than 42 million streams. Not bad for a completely independent one-man operation.
Elsewhere on the tracklist, the moody “SAUDADE” sits alongside the indie rock-tinged “FOR CERTAIN?!” and the instant-classic ballroom ballad “TIME AFTER TIME,” which channels the smokiest corners of ’90s R&B. And then there’s “RESURRECTION” — arguably the most unconventional cut on the project — which also gets a brand-new visualizer today.
“‘RESURRECTION’ is the most free and experimental song I’ve made to date,” alan vuong shared. “It combines everything that I’ve been making sound wise. I wanted to create something uplifting and inspiring from a creative standpoint, and to show an example of not boxing yourself in to one sound.”
That refusal to self-limit is the thesis of the entire project. “I’ve been working on ‘HEAVEN SENT ME’ since 2022,” he explained. “At this point in time, this body of work is a symbol for me to keep evolving, to never box myself in, and to chase what else God and life has in store for me. I believe this project is the first step in that direction.”
