Miranda Lambert has never been one to color inside country music’s carefully drawn lines, and her forthcoming eleventh studio album, Crisco, arriving October 2 via MCA, sounds like an artist who’s done pretending those lines exist at all. Across 12 tracks produced by Lambert alongside Jesse Frasure, the Texas-bred superstar swings from dive-bar dance floors to desert highways, from honky-tonk heartbreak to kitchen-table reflection, and somehow makes every detour feel like the main road.

“I’ve always loved every corner of country music,” Lambert shares. “The heartbreak songs, the honky-tonk songs, the songs that make you think and the songs that make you dance. Making this record reminded me that those things don’t have to be separated. We followed the songs wherever they wanted to go, trusted our instincts and ended up with something that feels really fun and really honest to who I am.”

The album’s greased-up title track — yes, Crisco, as in the shortening, as in the stuff that keeps the boot-scoot slick — is a wink to the long-standing love affair between country music and the dance floor. From there, the record sprawls in every direction Lambert has ever explored: the mythic cowgirl swagger of “Snakeskin Boots,” the wry vulnerability of “Whiskey Business” and “Cuttin’ Onions,” the hard-earned wisdom of “Two Things Can Be True,” and the wanderlust of “Till The Going’s Gone,” which drops as the next preview of the album on June 26.

Elsewhere, “To Everything” leans into uncertainty and adventure, “Sunset Marquis” drifts into escapist haze, and “Right Where We Left It” trades in nostalgia and second chances. The record also features the already-celebrated Chris Stapleton duet “A Song To Sing” — the biggest streaming debut of Lambert’s career, which Rolling Stone lauded for its “dreamy disco groove and lovestruck devotion” — and a soulful take on Jim Croce’s classic “I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song.”

Crisco was written with a trusted inner circle of collaborators including Natalie Hemby, Ashley Monroe, Waylon Payne, Aaron Raitiere and Josh Osborne, keeping the album firmly rooted in the storytelling tradition that has defined Lambert’s two-decade run as the most-awarded artist in ACM history. Rather than trying to redefine country music, Crisco widens its lens, and reminds us why Lambert has long been called, per NPR, “the most riveting country star of her generation.”
