Now, more than a decade and a half after his passing, the Dan Seals Estate is giving fans one more reason to reach for the tissues — and the volume knob.

Two of country music’s most decorated voices, GRAMMY winners Suzy Bogguss and Vince Gill, have officially joined the tracklist for Dan Seals & Friends: The Last Duet, arriving August 28 via Melody Place. The star-studded posthumous project pairs Seals’ original vocals with today’s most respected artists, and the newly announced additions add serious weight to an already stacked lineup.

Vince Gill steps up to trade lines with Seals on the 1988 single “They Rage On,” a Seals/Bob McDill co-write about pushing forward when life refuses to cooperate. It’s the kind of quietly devastating song Gill was practically built to sing — and considering he’s got 22 GRAMMY Awards, 18 CMA Awards, a Country Music Hall of Fame plaque, and roughly 30 million albums sold to his name, “built for it” might be an understatement.

Suzy Bogguss, meanwhile, takes on the tender ballad “I Don’t Believe I’ll Fall in Love Again,” written by Seals and Rafe Van Hoy. It’s a heartbreak song in the truest sense — the sound of someone bracing themselves against love — and Bogguss brings her signature crystalline warmth to every syllable.

“Everything about Dan felt comfortable. Singing with him feels the same,” Bogguss said of the collaboration. “His voice was effortless, yet emotional, and his phrasing always compelling. He was a great storyteller. It was such a pleasure to know him. He was kind and funny and a really good hang. I feel lucky that I got another chance to sing with him on this beautiful song.”

Bogguss knows a thing or two about longevity herself. The Platinum-certified artist behind hits like “Hey Cinderella,” “Outbound Plane,” and “Aces” was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry earlier this year, adding to a trophy shelf that already includes GRAMMY, ACM, and CMA honors.

Gill and Bogguss join a jaw-dropping roster of collaborators on the record, including Alabama, Luke Bryan, Tanya Tucker, Blake Shelton, Sara Evans, Marie Osmond, Jamey Johnson, The Castellows, and Seals’ original England Dan & John Ford Coley partner, John Ford Coley, who appears on a 50th anniversary edition of “I’d Really Love to See You Tonight.”

Born in Texas and famous for playing a right-handed 12-string guitar left-handed (“upside down and backwards,” as he put it), Dan Seals built one of the most quietly remarkable careers in American music — pop stardom as one half of England Dan & John Ford Coley, followed by eleven No. 1 Billboard country singles as a solo artist. He passed away in 2009 following a battle with mantle cell lymphoma, and was posthumously inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2025.
