Ice Nine Kills Score First-Ever #1 at Active Rock Radio with “Twisting The Knife” featuring McKenna Grace
Ice Nine Kills just added another blood-splattered trophy to the case. The Boston horror-rock outfit has officially locked in their first-ever #1 at Active Rock Radio with “Twisting The Knife (feat. McKenna Grace),” the official song from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group’s franchise-record-shattering horror flick, Scream 7. And in true INK fashion, they didn’t just claim the throne — they carved their initials into it.
“Twisting The Knife” isn’t just another notch on the belt. The track becomes the first song ever written for the iconic Scream franchise to hit #1 at radio, which, considering the franchise’s three-decade legacy of era-defining soundtrack cuts, is no small feat. Since its release, the song has racked up more than 32.2 million cross-platform streams, torched Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts (dethroning the Foo Fighters in the process — sorry, Dave), and swept US YouTube’s Current Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal Music Videos charts at #1. Oh, and it helped soundtrack Scream 7’s record-breaking box office debut. Casual Tuesday.
Frontman Spencer Charnas didn’t hide his emotions about the milestone. “Scream has been and will always be a monumental influence on us, and the music has been every bit as important as the films themselves, starting with Marco Beltrami’s brilliant score,” he shared. “The soundtrack to the original Scream was especially life-changing for me, from Birdbrain’s ‘Youth of America’ and Soho’s ‘Whisper to a Scream’ to, of course, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ iconic ‘Red Right Hand.’ Hearing those songs still takes me right back to that moment in time. To now be included among the songs that make up the legacy of this franchise is one of the greatest honors of our career.”
Charnas also spoke to something bigger — the increasingly rare marriage of rock music and horror cinema. “Equally meaningful is the opportunity to help bridge the worlds of rock music and horror cinema once again. That connection once felt central to both communities, but it has faded somewhat over the past couple of decades. We’re proud to play even a small role in bringing those worlds back together.”
The #1 is just the latest kill in what’s shaping up to be Ice Nine Kills’ most cinematic era yet. Recent horror franchise collaborations include “A Work of Art” from Terrifier 3, “Hell or High Slaughter (Grave Diggler: Pt. 2)” from Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, and the just-announced inclusion of Spencer voicing a playable character in the upcoming official Halloween video game. Piece by piece, the INKverse keeps expanding into every corner of horror fandom.
And the next chapter drops this week. During Dead By Daylight’s 10th Anniversary Broadcast, Behaviour Interactive revealed a new collaboration with Ice Nine Kills — a Dead By Daylight-inspired original track titled “Play Dead,” arriving Friday, June 26th. The band’s ongoing takeover of horror gaming, cinema, and heavy music continues, and honestly at this point, we’re just waiting for them to buy the rights to a haunted house too.
The numbers back the mythology. Ice Nine Kills have surpassed 2 billion global streams, 500 million YouTube views, sold-out headliners across multiple continents, and just wrapped a 2.5-year run supporting Metallica in stadiums worldwide. “Twisting The Knife” becoming their first Active Rock Radio #1 isn’t just a milestone — it’s confirmation that the INKverse is officially eating the mainstream alive.
