Two decades in, and Skillet are still very much in the mood to break something beautiful. The 23x-platinum rock juggernauts have announced a brand-new single, “Scream,” arriving July 10, alongside the “Comatose: 20 Years, Still Screaming Tour,” a fall 2026 headline run produced by Live Nation that celebrates the album that changed everything for the band — and, if the anecdotes at every merch table are to be believed, for a whole lot of listeners, too.

“Scream” is the first taste of a new Skillet era, with more music expected later this year. Frontman John Cooper says the band went back to Memphis to work with a producer who knew them before they’d ever cut a record, and the reunion clearly lit a fire. “Life has taken some great turns, but it’s also taken some painful turns,” Cooper explains. “Now we’re here, and we still have more of a story to tell. The music kept getting heavier, and I said, ‘We’ve got to go all-in.'”

That “all-in” energy shows up immediately. Clean electric guitar gets swallowed by crushing distortion, ominous keys ripple underneath, and Cooper delivers a chorus built for arenas and car stereos alike: “I wanna scream. I wanna break something beautiful.” A palm-muted bridge and a burst of glitchy electronics close it out, but the emotional core is the question Cooper keeps returning to — “Will I ever be enough?”

“I don’t think I’m the only one who’s noticing the volatility of the world and how social media is a cesspool where people are constantly yelling at each other,” Cooper says. “It’s not helping anyone’s mental health. In this landscape, it’s easy to feel like nothing matters. ‘Scream’ is about wanting your life to matter when the world feels chaotic and overwhelming.”

The single announcement lands during a genuinely absurd stretch for the band. Their 6x-platinum anthem “Monster” recently crossed 4 billion global streams, entered Spotify’s Billions Club, and cemented itself as one of the most-streamed rock songs ever — and it remains the only song by a Christian artist to pass 1 billion streams on Spotify. That milestone follows a completely sold-out European headline tour that moved more than 90,000 tickets across 23 cities, including a ticket-sales record at Zenith Paris.

Now comes the victory lap fans have been waiting for. The “Comatose: 20 Years, Still Screaming Tour” marks the 20th anniversary of Skillet’s 2006 breakout, and the band is dedicating a large portion of each night to those songs — including cuts they’ve played a thousand times and a few they’ve never played live at all.

“When we released our 2006 album, Comatose, we all had a feeling that we were making something special,” Cooper recalls. “What we didn’t know is that the album would change the trajectory of the band’s career. It defined our sound, our message, and propelled the band into a much bigger level of notoriety… At every show, someone tells me that this record helped them through the darkest times of their life. That is why we wanted to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Comatose by doing something we have never done — commemorating the album by dedicating a large portion of the show to these songs.”
