Las Vegas modern rock outfit Crashing Wayward aren’t in the business of subtle entrances. Their new single ‘Going Blind’ — out now via Golden Robot Records — kicks the door in with angular guitars, gale-force rhythms, and a vocal performance that sounds like it was ripped straight out of a fever dream. If this is a taste of what’s to come on their upcoming six-song EP ‘The Fight Within’ (dropping Q3 2026), buckle up.

On the surface, ‘Going Blind’ plays like a desperate love letter. Frontman Peter Summit sings, “My eyes they only see you / I’m going blind without you / I’ve seen the light outside / Fade in the dark at night,” with the kind of theatrical weight that suggests a lot more is going on underneath. And there is.

“I wrote the lyrics to feel as if they were speaking of losing the love of your life,” Summit explains, “but for me it’s really about losing hope in yourself and the internal screams for help.” That’s the Crashing Wayward move — writing songs that hit you in the chest before you realize they’ve also snuck into your head.

The road to the final version of ‘Going Blind’ wasn’t a straight one. Guitarist David Harris reveals the track went through a near-total demolition just days before tracking with producer Shawn McGhee (Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Strung Out). “About five days before we went into the studio, our producer, Shawn McGhee, asked me to come up with some additional guitar melody ideas for the outro chorus,” Harris recalls. “As I was listening to the demo and brainstorming, I started hearing the song in a completely different way. Before I knew it, I was tearing the arrangement apart and rebuilding it from the ground up.” The band agreed the last-minute overhaul took the song to another level — proof that sometimes the best move is to blow it up and start again.

The video, directed by Shane O’Neal and Deed DeBruno, captures the band performing at a remote outdoor location in Las Vegas, leaning into isolation and raw chemistry rather than gimmicks. “There are no gimmicks and no special effects, and we do not use AI in our videos,” Summit says. “I just hope to create or capture something cinematic. At the end of the day, all I want is to make sure the band’s performance and energy captured is just how we are live.”

‘Going Blind’ joins previous singles ‘Holding For Dear Life’ — dubbed a “tight, groovy beefcake of a song” by the UK’s Classic Rock magazine and voted reader’s “Track of the Week” — and the anti-hate anthem ‘Bullet For A Heart’ on the forthcoming EP. Produced with a heavier, more direct edge, ‘The Fight Within’ finds the band, in their own words, “reflecting outward to inward.”

Formed in 2020, Crashing Wayward — Peter Summit (vocals), David Harris (guitar), Carl Raether (bass), Tucker Jones (guitar), and Jon Gunder (drums) — first turned heads with their debut album ‘LISTEN!’, produced by Mike Gillies (Metallica, The Cult). Since then, they’ve built a reputation as a live band that hits hard and a studio band that keeps evolving.
