Andrew Farriss Trades the City Lights for the Long Road Home on New Single “Rolling Home”

Andrew Farriss has spent the better part of his career writing songs that define eras — first as the co-founder and primary songwriter of INXS, and more recently as a solo artist quietly carving out one of the most interesting late-career pivots in modern music. His latest single, “Rolling Home,” is another confident step into that Country/Americana chapter, and it lands as the third public preview from his upcoming album, The Prospector, due out July 10, 2026 via Rockingham Holdings Pty Ltd / AWAL (The Orchard).

Written with Jessica Odette Chalker, produced by Farriss himself, and cut at Beaird Music Group Studio in Nashville, “Rolling Home” trades stadium sheen for something dustier and more personal. It’s a song about the pull between ambition and belonging — the thrill of leaving your hometown behind, the ache of realizing the big city isn’t quite what the postcards promised, and the slow understanding that home may have been the point all along.

“Rolling Home is about the emotions most of us have felt about leaving home for the first time, to go explore another place, another city, another town,” Farriss says. “Especially for those who come from small towns into the big city, and then the desire to return to their roots, realizing maybe the fantasy of the big city doesn’t match up to reality.”

The track is stacked with Nashville heavyweights: Evan Hitchings on drums, Eli Beaird on bass, Troy Lancaster on electric guitar, Billy Justineau on piano, Scotty Sanders on slide, Devin Malone on acoustic, Tammy Rogers King on fiddle, and backing vocals from Angie Primm, Gale Mayes, and Marti Dodson. Engineering came courtesy of Jim DeBlanc, Rob Lane, and David Buchanan, with Don Bartley on mastering — the same team helping shape the wider Prospector project.

And that project is well underway. Six of the album’s 12 tracks are already out in the world, alongside a growing catalog of official music videos and a lyric video. Songs like “Gold Rush To Ghost Town,” “Southern Cross Shines,” “Mending Fences,” “Something Stronger,” and “Someone For Everyone” have already offered a window into a record built on movement, memory, and the very human search for meaning.

“The song ‘Rolling Home’ suits ‘The Prospector’ album because the grass is not always greener on the other side of life,” Farriss says. “It’s about enjoying the time you have today and in the minutes and seconds of your life right now.”

The title itself carries weight. For Farriss, The Prospector is less a concept and more a mission statement — a nod to the idea that we’re all searching for something, whether we know it or not.

“I chose ‘THE PROSPECTOR’ as my album title because of the 12 songs on the album, especially the lyrics and the many references made to searching for things in life,” he explains. “Whether you are searching for gold physically or for the gold in heartfelt meaningful relationships with others.”

The Prospector is Farriss’ second solo release, following his 2021 self-titled debut that produced high-rotation singles “Come Midnight” and “Good Momma Bad,” along with “You Are My Rock,” which cracked the U.S. Billboard Indicator Top 100. His storytelling chops earned him a Golden Guitar nomination for “With The Kelly Gang,” and in 2024 he made his Grand Ole Opry debut — with a little help from a special guest named Keith Urban. Farriss will return to the Opry stage on July 10 to celebrate the album’s release.

The record includes solo Farriss compositions and collaborations with a deep bench of writers, including Stephen Wilson Jr., Leigh Nash, Steve Bogard, Sam James, Jess Chalker, Ciaran Gribbin, Lawrie Minson, Ryan Necci, Jacob Reese Thornton, Buck Johnson, and Wally Brandt. It’ll be available on digital, CD, and vinyl.

“‘The Prospector’ album is my second solo release. It is a little more mellow than my first album, and a little bit more introspective lyrically, but I’m pleased with the recordings and songs on the album,” Farriss says.

For a songwriter whose fingerprints are on some of the biggest rock singles of the last four decades, this new phase feels less like a reinvention and more like a homecoming — appropriately enough, given the single that’s carrying it. The Prospector arrives July 10, 2026. Do yourself a favor and start with “Rolling Home.”
