Bitter:Sweet Return With Cinematic New Single “The One” — LP Out This August
Bitter:Sweet is back, and if you’ve been waiting for the kind of smoky, cinematic pop that made The Mating Game a downtempo touchstone two decades ago, this one’s for you. Shana Halligan — the co-founder, lead vocalist, and creative engine behind the project — has just unveiled “The One,” the title track from a brand-new Bitter:Sweet LP arriving later this summer.
Produced by Max Bottini of the acclaimed Italian trip-hop duo Gabin, “The One” is a sweeping slice of 70s-inspired pop: seductive, cinematic, and unashamedly romantic. Smoky guitars curl around commanding percussion while Halligan’s velvet vocals do what they’ve always done best — pine, ache, and pull you all the way in.
The song’s emotional weight is earned. “‘The One’ came to me after the recent passing of my biological mum and the view of myself I have battled with based on her own feelings about herself,” Halligan shares. “It was instilled upon me at a young age that once I no longer have youth and beauty, I will no longer have a reason to be loved. In this song, I had been so desperately longing to be loved, accepted and cared for, for as long as time will allow, realizing time is now fleeting…”

The forthcoming album is stacked. Halligan pulled from a rolodex most artists would kill for, enlisting double Grammy-winning producer Ken Lewis (BTS, Taylor Swift), longtime Thievery Corporation collaborator Rob Garza, and Brent Kolatalo (Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga), plus Max of Gabin, Luca Musto, Shoffy, Casey Abrams, and Max Cinnamon. The result is a record that stretches from downtempo grooves and orchestral arrangements to disco flirtations and grittier, darker corners — all held together by Halligan’s unmistakable voice.
“I’ve become the conductor,” she says, and it shows. Following 2025’s Baby Is Back, Halligan has entered a period of serious creative momentum, trusting her instincts and letting ideas arrive fast. For a project whose debut LP moved half a million physical copies and racked up more than 350 million streams while soundtracking a small mountain of films, TV shows, and commercials, that renewed confidence is no small thing.
If the first chapter of Bitter:Sweet introduced the world to one of modern music’s most captivating voices, this new era feels like the sound of an artist operating at the peak of her powers — fearlessly creative, playful, and more inspired than ever. Press play, pour something dark, and let “The One” do its work. The full LP lands this August.
