Retirement Confidence Slips in 2026: EBRI Webinar to Unpack Rising Costs, Debt, and Financial Strain
Americans are feeling less confident about retirement than they did a year ago, and the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) is bringing together some of the sharpest minds in the industry to figure out what that means for workers, retirees, employers, plan sponsors, and advisors.
On Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 3 to 4 p.m. ET, EBRI will host a complimentary webinar titled “Retirement Confidence in 2026: Rising Costs, Debt, and Declining Confidence.” The session will unpack the latest findings from the 2026 Retirement Confidence Survey, the longest-running survey of its kind tracking how workers and retirees actually feel about their financial futures in the United States.
Conducted in partnership with Greenwald Research, this year’s survey paints a sobering picture. Retirement confidence declined across the board, with both workers and retirees pointing to a familiar but intensifying set of pressures: rising costs, mounting debt, health care expenses, housing costs, and lingering uncertainty about the long-term future of the U.S. retirement system. Put simply, the math is getting harder, and Americans know it.
The webinar’s panel brings a mix of research and industry perspective to the table:
– Daniella Moiseyev, head of retirement and income solutions content strategy at Principal Financial Group
– Dee Dee R. Chadwick, senior director, advanced consulting group at Nationwide
– Craig Copeland, director of wealth benefits research at EBRI
– Lisa Greenwald, CEO of Greenwald Research
Expect the conversation to move beyond the headline numbers. Panelists will dig into what the survey findings reveal about retirement readiness, financial stress, and the growing appetite for trusted guidance and planning tools. There will also be focused discussion on income solutions — the products and strategies designed to help workers and retirees translate a lifetime of savings into predictable, long-term financial security.
For plan sponsors and advisors, the takeaways are especially timely. If confidence is eroding, the industry’s response — from communication strategies to product design to advice delivery — has to evolve with it.
