alan vuong Drops Cinematic Indie-Rock Ballad “FOR CERTAIN?!” Ahead of EP “HEAVEN SENT ME” and NYC Debut
If you’ve been driving down the 405 at 3 a.m. wondering whether the person on the other end of that unread text is worth the trouble, alan vuong has a soundtrack for you — and he just dropped a new chapter of it.
The 23-year-old Southern California hitmaker has released “FOR CERTAIN?!,” a cinematic, indie-rock inspired ballad that pivots his signature R&B flow into the misty, nu-psychedelic territory he’s been quietly perfecting since 2022. It’s pensive. It’s romantic. And it’s the latest teaser from his highly anticipated EP HEAVEN SENT ME, due June 26.

“This record is all about uncertainty and the challenges of committing to something or someone,” alan vuong said of the new single. “The back and forth of emotions in a relationship and not knowing what’s for sure, not knowing if it’s going to last, not knowing what the future expectations might hold.”
That push-and-pull is baked into the DNA of HEAVEN SENT ME, an eight-track project that blends 2010s Southern California indie rock, classic 90s pop, and his SoundCloud-era rap and R&B roots. At times he’s delivering an R&B flow over a post-punk beat. At others, he’s floating dazzling falsettos through neon-noir textures. The Knockturnal called it “a hypnotic blend of neon-noir textures, nu-psychedelic R&B, and emotionally hazy storytelling,” while Envi Media summed it up simply: “indie and R&B collide.”
Here’s the wild part — alan vuong has already racked up more than 139 million Spotify streams with no label, no management, and no distribution deal. Previous singles “DEEP IN YOUR SOUL” (over 41 million streams on its own), “TELL ‘EM YOU’RE MINE,” and “TOO LATE FOR YOU” have turned the mostly-anonymous prodigy into one of the most quietly dominant independent artists working right now.
On the meaning behind the project, he added: “I’ve been working on HEAVEN SENT ME since 2022 and it was actually meant for something different that I was working on, but I enjoyed working on it so much that I wanted to release these new sounds as alan vuong. At this point in time, this body of work is a symbol for me to keep evolving, to never box myself in and to chase what else God and life has in store for me.”

After sold-out debut headline shows at Santa Ana’s Observatory Room and Los Angeles’ Moroccan Lounge, alan vuong is bringing the neon dreamscape east for the first time. He’ll play his first-ever New York City headline show at Mercury Lounge on June 24, with more one-off headline dates expected across major U.S. cities later this summer. Tickets for the NYC show are on sale now — and if the West Coast run is any indication, this one won’t stick around long.
For an artist who has spent years capturing the feelings that hover between past and present, HEAVEN SENT ME feels like the moment alan vuong steps into the spotlight on his own terms. Consider this your heads-up: press play, grab a ticket, and get in before the rest of the world catches on.
