Arthur Stulien Rides From Kristiansand to “Tennessee” on New Album Heart On The Run
Norway isn’t exactly the first place most people picture when they think of pedal steel and porch-swing heartbreak, but Arthur Stulien has spent the last two years quietly rewriting that map. The Kristiansand-born country-pop artist has just unveiled his most ambitious project to date, Heart On The Run, a record that trades postcard sentimentality for something far more lived-in.
The album is anchored by its focus track, “Tennessee,” a duet with fellow Norwegian country artist ERLEND. Built on warm acoustic instrumentation and two vocal performances that sound genuinely worn-in rather than merely polished, the song lands squarely in that sweet spot between homesickness and hunger. As Stulien puts it, it’s “a heartfelt modern country ballad about chasing dreams, missing home, and the places that shape us.” In other words: the exact tug-of-war anyone who’s ever left a small town to chase something bigger will recognize on the first listen.
Across Heart On The Run, Stulien leans into love, distance, resilience, nostalgia and self-discovery without ever tipping into cliché. The production is unapologetically modern country — big choruses, radio-ready sheen, streaming-playlist DNA — but the songwriting keeps its boots muddy. It’s the kind of album that works just as well on a festival main stage as it does through a pair of headphones on a long drive home.
That festival stage isn’t hypothetical, either. This summer Stulien takes the record to Seljord Country Festival, the biggest country gathering in the Nordics, on the back of a sold-out hometown headline show at KRS Live. It’s a fitting next step for an artist whose momentum has been genuinely difficult to ignore: a finalist run on The Voice Norway 2024, a European Country Single of the Year win for the 1.29-million-streaming “Play It Again,” a featured spot on TVNorge/HBO Max’s Sistemann Ut, and editorial support from New Music Friday Norway, New Music Friday Suomi and En God Dose Country for previous single “Hate To Break Your Heart.”
Heart On The Run pulls all of those threads together into Stulien’s most complete artistic statement so far — a record that argues, convincingly, that Nordic country isn’t a novelty but a scene with real staying power. If “Tennessee” is the thesis, the rest of the album is the receipts.
