Black Spikes Unleash Haunting New Single “MOTINA” Ahead of Napalm Records Debut “Ydos”
Lithuanian avant-gardists Black Spikes have pulled back the curtain on the next chapter of their forthcoming album Ydos, out August 28 via Napalm Records, with the release of their third single, “MOTINA.” Translating simply — and ominously — to “mother,” the track functions as the exposition of the concept album’s ambitious storytelling arc, in which each of the record’s ten songs is devoted to one of the flaws we all quietly carry around inside us.

Sonically, “MOTINA” is a masterclass in dynamics. It opens as a hushed lullaby — all gentle vocals and creeping unease — before detonating into a storm of growls, thunderous blast beats, and intricate guitar work. That whiplash from tenderness to tempest is the point: the song describes the birth of the vices that stalk the rest of the record, and it makes room for Black Spikes’ full arsenal, from the atmospheric to the outright annihilating.
“This is the song where the story of Ydos begins,” the band explains. “‘MOTINA’ tells the tale of the birth of the Vices. Born in a pure and untouched world, they gather strength before setting out to discover humanity—fragile, searching, and eager to believe. Their presence can be felt throughout the album, revealed through sweet whispers that reflect their growing influence as they subtly shape the choices and fate of humankind.”
Fresh off a nomination at Lithuania’s Grammy-comparable M.A.M.A. Music Awards, Black Spikes are stepping onto the international stage with a record that leans hard into modern progressive metal while flirting with electronic textures, trap beats, and cinematic orchestration. Ydos is a dark fairytale, and each vice — greed, apathy, pride, revenge, and more — gets its own name, its own demon, and, in many cases, its own music video.
“Ydos is a conceptual album — a dark fairytale about human vices,” the band shares. “The idea was there from the very beginning and guided the entire songwriting process. Each vice has its own name and story, and many songs will be brought to life through music videos where these vices take shape. It was our first time creating a conceptual album, and we really enjoyed starting with an idea and expressing it through music.”
The tracklist unfolds like chapters in a grim storybook: the eerie intro “PASAKA,” the birth of the vices in “MOTINA,” the trap-laced modern metal of “MELAS,” the curiosity-obsessed “MARA,” the greed-personified “ZELVAR” (the album’s only English-language track), the vengeful “REVANA,” the futuristic pulse of “APATIJA,” the prideful cinematic sweep of “AUREA,” the demon-summoning “SENAS DEMONAS,” and the closing dust-to-dust meditation of “DULKĖS.”
Ydos will be available on Marbled White/Gold/Black vinyl (Napalm Mailorder exclusive, including a signed autograph card), Solid Gold vinyl, Digisleeve CD, and digital formats. Pre-order the album here: http://lnk.to/BlackSpikes-Ydos/napalmrecords
