Motörhead Unleash “Be My Baby (Live at Lowlands 2007)” Ahead of Kiss of Death 20th Anniversary Reissue
If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to crank the stereo loud enough to worry the neighbors, Motörhead just handed you one on a scorched silver platter. The band has released “Be My Baby (Live at Lowlands Festival 2007),” the second single lifted from the upcoming 20th Anniversary Edition of Kiss of Death, due out July 3rd on expanded double LP and 2CD.
Pulled from a previously unreleased radio broadcast of Motörhead’s 2007 assault on the hallowed Dutch festival in Biddinghuizen, this version of “Be My Baby” is exactly what you want it to be: Lemmy snarling over a rhythm section that sounds like it’s trying to kick a hole through the stage. It’s raw, it’s loud, and it’s a reminder of why this trio remained the gold standard for no-frills, full-throttle rock and roll right up until the end.
Originally released in 2006, Kiss of Death was Motörhead’s 18th studio album and a fitting continuation of the fire they lit on 2004’s Inferno. Driven by Lemmy’s unmistakable growl, Phil Campbell’s blistering guitar work, and Mikkey Dee’s razor-sharp precision drumming, the record leaned harder into the heavier edge of the band’s sound, featuring guest appearances from Mike Inez (Alice in Chains) and C.C. DeVille (Poison), and delivering fan favorites like “Sucker,” “Trigger,” and the seismic “God Was Never On Your Side.”
For its 20th birthday, the album has been half-speed mastered from the original tapes, with fresh liner notes from Classic Rock’s Dave Ling that also serve as a tribute to the legendary Phil Campbell following his recent passing. The vinyl edition adds an exclusive bonus live LP capturing that 2007 Lowlands set in full for the first time on wax, while the CD version tacks on three additional bonus tracks including a live take of “R.A.M.O.N.E.S.” and a ripping “Whiplash.”
Two decades on, Kiss of Death still hits like a freight train with the brakes cut. This anniversary edition is the definitive way to revisit it — and the Lowlands live disc alone is worth the price of admission for anyone who ever caught this band in their prime, or wishes they had.
