Milwaukee’s ambient underground has a habit of rewarding patient listeners, and Shane Conner’s latest release, “Still Green,” is a quiet argument for slowing down. Drifting in on a low tide of synth pads, tape hiss, and reverb-soaked textures, the record trades urgency for atmosphere and asks you to sit with it for a while.

Where a lot of ambient work leans toward icy detachment, “Still Green” is warmer than that. There’s a real sense of place threaded through these pieces — call it Midwest dusk, call it the hum of a furnace kicking on in an old apartment — and it gives the record a kind of gentle gravity. Notes bloom, decay, and reappear in slightly different shapes, like memories you’re trying not to disturb.

It’s the kind of listen that works equally well as a headphone deep-dive or as a room-tone soundtrack to a long afternoon of doing absolutely nothing productive. Which, frankly, we could all use more of.
