Every so often an artist arrives who sounds like she wandered out of a sun-bleached Laurel Canyon bungalow circa 1973 with a handful of songs in her back pocket and a story to tell. Haylie Davis is that artist, and her long-awaited debut album, Wandering Star, out today via Fire Records, is exactly the kind of record that makes you want to pull down the shades, drop the needle, and stay a while.

Raised in Northern California and now planted firmly in Los Angeles, Davis has spent the last few years quietly building a reputation as one of the most compelling new voices in cosmic Americana. Collaborations with kindred spirits like Drugdealer, Sylvie, Alex Amen, and Sam Burton hinted at what she could do inside someone else’s frame. Wandering Star is the sound of her stepping fully into her own — and Rolling Stone noticed, tapping her for its influential “The Future 25” and comparing her to a cross between Emmylou Harris and cult psych-folk enigma Linda Perhacs.

The record is a coming-of-age document in the truest sense. Across eleven tracks, Davis takes stock of the wins, the losses, the friends made, the bridges burned, and the miles clocked between them. “Even though I feel like I am a part of something, I am doing things my own way,” Davis says. “It’s important to remember who you are so you don’t get carried away in the era of algorithms and followers. I believe everyone has a calling, a whisper in their heart. It takes a lot of courage to be a wandering star. To be lost and find the will to keep going is a very difficult thing to do.”

You can feel that courage in every bar. Wandering Star is timeless in feeling yet unmistakably of the moment — infectious hooks, soaring choruses, and enduring storylines that pull at the heartstrings without ever tipping into sentimentality. It is, in short, one of the loveliest debuts of 2026.

Davis recently celebrated the album with a Fire Records showcase at Hotel Vegas during SXSW 2026, and she’s just announced an in-store acoustic performance at Rough Trade in New York on June 6, with additional US and London dates to be revealed soon.
