Fever Marlene has always been a band that takes its time, and after more than a decade spent crafting their latest work, the Milwaukee indie rock veterans have finally delivered Still In My Blood—a 12-track album that proves some things are worth the wait.

Led by founding members Scott Starr and Kevin Dunphy, Fever Marlene emerged from Milwaukee’s scrappy early-2000s garage rock scene as a two-piece before evolving into a full band. Their album Civil War earned them Album of the Year honors in Milwaukee’s music circles back in the day, and since then, the group has grown into a four-piece with a sound that’s become increasingly atmospheric and synth-driven without losing that raw edge.

The title track “Still In My Blood” clocks in at just over five minutes and hits with a driving, high-energy intensity. There’s a melancholic undercurrent running beneath the urgent pulse, the kind of tension Fever Marlene has spent two decades perfecting in their Dirty Earth studio. The song races forward at a brisk pace, guitars and synths locked in a hypnotic dance that refuses to let up.

This album follows their synth-heavy single “Bystander,” which premiered on Radio Milwaukee earlier this year and signaled that Fever Marlene was ready to remind everyone why they’ve been a fixture in this city’s music community for over 20 years.
