Milwaukee guitarist Shonn Hinton has built a reputation that stretches far beyond the city limits. His résumé reads like a backstage pass to some of the biggest stages in modern music—touring and recording with Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, John Legend, and Lil Wayne, with Grammy Awards appearances sprinkled in for good measure. But Hinton has always kept one foot firmly planted in Milwaukee, leading his own band Shonn Hinton & Shotgun and teaching the next generation at Milwaukee High School of the Arts.

Now, he’s back with Mouth Piece, a nine-track album that dropped July 1st and finds Hinton channeling all that big-league experience into something unmistakably personal.

The album’s standout track “Give It to Me” showcases the kind of high-energy, dance-floor-ready grooves that Hinton does best. With an uptempo pulse and a punchy, major-key feel, the track hits with confidence and swagger. The production is tight and loud, leaving plenty of room for Hinton’s guitar work to breathe while keeping the rhythm section locked in. There’s a live, in-the-room energy here—not surprising from someone who’s spent years commanding stages alongside chart-topping acts.
