AUDIO: Rabid Wreck – “Rabid Wreck”

Milwaukee’s punk underground has never been shy about handing you something loud, ugly, and completely irresistible — and Rabid Wreck’s self-titled release fits neatly into that lineage. The Cream City four-chord faithful will find plenty to chew on here: buzzsaw guitars, blown-out vocals, and the kind of tempo that dares you to stand still.

Rabid Wreck have quietly been making a name for themselves on the local circuit, popping up on Milwaukee bills and even crossing state lines for gigs at spots like Reggies in Chicago, where they’ve been introduced simply as “punk rock outta Milwaukee, Wisconsin.” That no-frills tagline pretty much sums up the record itself. There’s no genre-bending gimmickry, no half-baked crossover experiment — just fast, sneering, unapologetic punk that sounds like it was written in a basement and mixed with the door open.

What makes this self-titled effort work is its refusal to pad the runtime. Songs get in, do their damage, and leave before anyone can find the exit. It’s the kind of release that rewards a full-volume listen on a bad day — the sonic equivalent of kicking a dent into your own car door and feeling better about it.

If you’ve been sleeping on Milwaukee punk lately (shame on you), consider this your wake-up call. Stream Rabid Wreck’s self-titled below and then go find them at a dive bar near you.
