Dead Tired Announce New Album ‘Hornets of Fall’ Out August 14 via New Damage, Share “Edge of Entropy”
Some bands grind. Dead Tired ferment. The Hamilton-based hardcore quintet — anchored by Alexisonfire frontman George Pettit — have announced their fourth full-length, Hornets of Fall, due August 14 via New Damage. To sweeten the wait, they’ve dropped lead single “Edge of Entropy,” a lean, mean rip of a track that arrives with a visualizer built to match its bite.
Dead Tired have always been the “friends first, band second” project — a group of guys with day jobs in arena-touring rock outfits, recording studios, tattoo shops, and (per the band’s own admission) top-secret magic-card-related affairs. Fancy dinners, top-shelf scotch, and premium cigars reportedly outpace actual rehearsals by a factor of five. Somehow, that’s the point. Without label pressure or a punishing deadline, the band writes when the songs are ready, records when the songs demand it, and releases only when everyone at the table nods yes.
That patience shows on Hornets of Fall. Across 12 tracks, the record swings from breakneck to bruisingly slow, riff-heavy to outright bloodthirsty — a sampler platter for anyone who likes their hardcore with range. The band calls it their favorite yet, and after a single spin of “Edge of Entropy,” it’s hard to argue.
“Dead Tired can be a real vehicle for my more misanthropic lyrics,” says vocalist George Pettit. “‘Edge of Entropy’ is basically about standing back and watching as the world collectively makes the wrong decision and how people choose self-interest at their own peril.”
The album also stacks a serious guest list, with features from Liam Cormier (Cancer Bats) on “Bad Thoughts,” Andrew Neufeld (Comeback Kid) on “Dust Storm,” and Chris Cresswell (The Flatliners) on “The Pull.”
