AUDIO: i h8 it here – “16 single/twink violence”
Milwaukee’s punk underground just got a fresh jolt of caffeinated chaos. i h8 it here, the project whose name reads like a bathroom stall confession scrawled in Sharpie, has dropped a new double-single titled “16 single/twink violence” — and it absolutely rips.
Clocking in with the kind of urgency that makes you check if your shoelaces are tied, the release pairs two tracks that feel like companion pieces in a diary nobody asked to read but everybody can relate to. “16 single” leans into the kind of anthemic, hooky punk that’s become a hallmark of the city’s basement-show circuit, all jangly tension and shout-along catharsis. “twink violence,” meanwhile, is exactly as unhinged as the title promises — a snarling, tongue-in-cheek burst of fuzzed-out fury that earns every second of its runtime.
What makes i h8 it here such a compelling addition to Milwaukee’s already loaded punk scene is the band’s refusal to take itself too seriously while still landing emotional gut-punches. There’s a sharp self-awareness baked into these songs, the kind that lets you laugh at the title and then sit with the lyrics a little longer than you expected to. It’s punk that knows the joke and means it anyway.
