156/Silence Announce New Album ‘From A Distance’ Out September 4 via Pure Noise Records, Share “No Arms” Video
Pittsburgh’s atmospheric metalcore juggernaut 156/Silence is back, and this time they’re aiming for something even bigger than 2024’s breakout ‘People Watching.’ The band has officially announced their sixth full-length album, ‘From A Distance,’ set for release on Friday, September 4 via their new label home, Pure Noise Records. To set the table, they’ve dropped a brutal yet cinematic lead single, “No Arms,” along with its official music video.

“No Arms” hits like a panic attack rendered in surround sound. The band describes the track as being “about being without a way to protect yourself and what belongs to you. Being alone and afraid, not having any means to control the situations that befall on us. The overwhelming feeling of being helpless until we’re not. Until somebody saves us.” It’s a fitting thesis statement for a record that promises to widen the lens on the personal turmoil 156/Silence have built their reputation on.
Produced by Josh Schroeder (Lorna Shore, The Plot In You, King 810), ‘From A Distance’ acts as the spiritual sequel to ‘People Watching,’ trading close-range tension for a broader, more observational vantage point. Vocalist Jack Murray’s lyrics tackle celebrity worship (“Proxy Idols”), intrusive thoughts (“Swept From Under (Call of the Void)”), and the quiet devastation of watching things fall apart (“Order & Entropy”). Murray even calls the title track “a love song” — though, true to form, it’s also “probably the most Twin Peaks-inspired song” on the record. A sample from Apple TV’s ‘Severance’ opens the album, which should tell you everything you need to know about the mood.
The twelve-track set also features a stacked guest list: Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada appears on “Cannon Fodder,” Alex Reade of Make Them Suffer joins for the title track, and Tony Castrati of Crippling Alcoholism shows up on “Collateral.”

Guitarist and primary songwriter Jimmy Howell sums up the band’s restless creative DNA: “I look toward bands we love that grew with their listeners, like Thrice and Bring Me The Horizon. They have a sound, but they grow and change. Some bands are comfortable repeating the same thing again. I don’t want to do that.” That mission statement tracks across the record, which lurches from straightforward hard rock to synth-heavy experimentation and back into the band’s mathcore roots without ever losing the plot.
