If metal gods, witches, and warriors all walked into a Los Angeles recording session, the soundtrack might sound a lot like The Whispering. The brand-new heavy metal unit, led by enigmatic newcomer Lucian Fhor on vocals and guitar, has just dropped its debut release — The Whispering – Part 1 EP — and it arrives swinging with the kind of raw power and precision that only a lineup this stacked could deliver.

Fhor isn’t going it alone. He’s flanked by some of the most respected names in modern extreme music: Loic Colin (Scarve, One Way Mirror) on bass, Swedish cult drummer Tobias Kellgren (Dissection, Sacramentum, In Flames touring), and Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork) behind the kit. Verbeuren stepped in to record “The Whispering” and “Life After God” when Kellgren’s schedule tightened, reuniting with his 20-year rhythmic partner Colin. Kellgren still handles drum duties on “Evil Eye” and “Pretty Witches,” and remains the band’s touring drummer.

The EP previews four of the ten tracks from the forthcoming self-titled full-length, due in fall 2026. Recorded at the famed Studio Besco in Paris with producer/manager Dan McConomy, engineered by Mohammad “Momo” Sadeghin, and mastered by the legendary Randy Merrill at Sterling Sound, the project’s pedigree is loud before you even hit play. Add in the haunting backing vocals from The Sisters Spellbound and you have a record that feels cinematic, occult, and dangerous in equal measure.

From the cryptic whispered intro of the title track, it’s clear this isn’t a soft launch. The Whispering pendulums between wicked metal and alternative metal with lyrics that take aim at injustice, oppression, and hypocrisy — Fhor’s rebellious streak sharpened by years of performing with Cirque du Soleil and touring stages across the USA, Canada, Australia, China, the UK, and Europe. That theatrical instinct promises a live show built for full immersion.
