Shinedown Make History Again: “Safe and Sound” Notches Record-Extending 25th #1 at Mediabase Active Rock
If there was ever any doubt that Shinedown are operating on a different plane than the rest of the rock world, consider it officially settled. The multi-platinum band have just landed their 25th #1 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart with their latest single “Safe and Sound,” extending their own record for the most chart-toppers in the format’s history. In other words: they keep breaking the record nobody else can catch.
The milestone arrives at a perfectly orchestrated moment. Shinedown’s hotly anticipated new album, EI8HT, drops May 29th via Atlantic Records, and the runway leading up to release has been nothing short of a victory lap. From a show-stopping appearance on the American Idol grand finale alongside finalist Philmon Lee to a headlining slot at Sonic Temple Festival, the band has been everywhere — and the internet has noticed. Brent Smith and Zach Myers’ emotional sit-down with Allison Hagendorf made the rounds, while Zach’s sneaker deep-dive on The Downbeat Podcast proved the band’s appeal stretches well beyond the mosh pit.
“Safe and Sound” is the latest in a staggering run of rock radio dominance for the band, joining recent #1s “Dance, Kid, Dance,” “Killing Fields,” and “Searchlight.” And let’s not forget “Three Six Five,” which crossed over to hit #1 at Alternative radio while climbing the Hot AC and Top 40 charts — the kind of crossover trick most rock bands can only dream about. Produced by bassist and songwriter Eric Bass at the band’s own Big Animal Studio in Charleston, South Carolina, EI8HT promises to deliver the massive hooks, emotional honesty, and explosive energy that have made Shinedown one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.

The momentum doesn’t stop with radio. Shinedown have just kicked off their Dance Kid Dance Act II World Tour — a monster trek spanning 11 countries and more than 50 dates across North America, the UK, and Europe. Continuing their long history of philanthropy, the band will donate $1 from every ticket sold to City of Hope, one of the largest and most advanced cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States. It’s a fitting follow-up to their previous tour partnership with Musicians On Call, which helped raise more than $300,000 to bring live music to patients and caregivers in healthcare settings nationwide.
Twenty-five #1s. Billions of streams. A sold-out world tour. A new album on the way. More than two decades into their career, Shinedown aren’t just keeping up — they’re setting the pace. Pre-order EI8HT and grab tour tickets now before the rest of the world catches on (spoiler: they already have).
