Little Big Town Step Into the Light With New Single “Hey There Sunshine”
After two years of relative quiet, Little Big Town are back — and they’re stepping into the sunlight. The multi-platinum, GRAMMY-winning quartet of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook have just released “Hey There Sunshine,” their first new music since 2024, out now via MCA.
If recent years have felt heavy, “Hey There Sunshine” is the exhale. The song lives in that delicate, almost cinematic moment when the clouds finally start to break — when hope, peace, and self-acceptance quietly slip back in through the window. Produced by Karen Fairchild alongside Gena Johnson (Jason Isbell, Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile), the track leans into the kind of warm, lived-in harmonies that have made Little Big Town one of country music’s most recognizable voices for the better part of three decades.
“Songs are truly the most profound gifts,” Fairchild says of the new track. “We’re honored this one found its way to us. It’s a reminder of all the beauty around us and that it’s never too late to find it.”
The official music video — directed by Becky Fluke and Reid Long, whose résumé includes work with Eric Church, Brothers Osborne, and The Black Keys — matches the song’s tone beautifully. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/Q4thqUUQ8zw
Fans won’t have to wait long to see the song performed live, either. Little Big Town will debut “Hey There Sunshine” this Sunday, May 17th, at the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards, broadcasting from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The show streams live at 8 p.m. EDT / 5 p.m. PDT on Prime Video and Twitch.
It’s a fitting stage for a band that has spent 25 years rewriting the country music playbook. From “Boondocks” and “Pontoon” to “Tornado,” “Day Drinking,” and the genre-shifting “Girl Crush” — the best-selling country single of 2015 — Little Big Town have a catalog most acts only dream of. Their albums Tornado, PainKiller, The Breaker (which debuted at No. 1 and produced the GRAMMY-winning “Better Man”), Nightfall, and Mr. Sun have racked up multiple No. 1 singles and more than 20 major award wins across the GRAMMYs, CMAs, ACMs, AMAs, People’s Choice Awards, and an Emmy.
“Hey There Sunshine” suggests there’s plenty more on the horizon — and if this song is any indication, the next chapter is going to glow.
