Ocean Sleeper Smash Through Borders With Anthemic New Single “Break The Cycle”

Regional Victorian metalcore outfit Ocean Sleeper aren’t waiting for permission anymore. The Gippsland four-piece — tradies by day, genre-bending heavy hitters by night — have just dropped “Break The Cycle,” a fast, ferocious, and unapologetically anthemic new single via BMG Australia and Rise Records (USA). And if this is the opening shot of their next era, consider us locked in for the long haul.

The single was born out of a creative chemistry the band sparked when they brought Point North to Australia for their sold-out 2025 tour. After flying stateside for their own U.S. headline run and catching Lil Lotus, Sace6, and Point North at Warped Tour, Ocean Sleeper marched straight into the studio the very next day with Jon Lundin (Point North, Falling In Reverse) to co-write what has quickly become one of their most emotionally charged tracks to date.

“This song captures our struggle in breaking out of Australia and into the global touring market as an independent band,” the band shares. “It’s fast-paced, heavier than before, while still keeping the emotional depth with one of our biggest choruses to date. We instantly knew this song was going to be something special.”

They aren’t exaggerating. “Break The Cycle” packs that signature Ocean Sleeper combination of crushing metalcore riffs and gut-punch melody, but with a sharper edge — a band who have spent the past two years touring relentlessly and clearly came home with bigger ideas and a meaner low end. The chorus is built to be screamed back at festivals from Melbourne to Munich.

Since forming in 2015, Ocean Sleeper have built their reputation the hard way: through self-sufficiency, brutal persistence, and a refusal to let a small country town dictate the size of their ambitions. From their 2019 debut album Don’t Leave Me This Way to their 2025 EP Maybe Death Is All I Need, they’ve quietly become one of the most exciting heavy bands flying the Australian flag, racking up sold-out tours across Australia and the U.S. and earning a vehemently loyal European following along the way.

2026 is shaping up to be their biggest year yet. The band recently shared the stage at Polaris-curated festival Life’s A Beach in Melbourne alongside We Came As Romans, Thy Art Is Murder, and Caskets. Next, they’ll play their debut headline European shows in Eindhoven, Prague, and Vienna, support Nevertel across the EU/UK through June and July, and appear at Germany’s Impericon Festival. Then in October, they board the Hellbound Cruise — a three-day floating heavy music celebration with Parkway Drive, Polaris, Northlane, and The Butterfly Effect, setting sail from Sydney Harbour.

With BMG and Rise Records now in their corner, Ocean Sleeper are doing exactly what the song promises — breaking the cycle, kicking down doors, and proving that regional Victoria can absolutely produce the future of Aussie metalcore.

Stream “Break The Cycle” now and turn it up loud. Then catch them on the road — these shows aren’t going to stay small for much longer.
