Colton Dawson Signs With Warner Records Nashville and TKO Artist Management, Debut Single “Might Be In It” Drops May 15
Country music’s next great traditionalist just punched his ticket to the big leagues. Warner Records Nashville has officially announced the signing of 19-year-old Arizona native Colton Dawson, marking the first-ever record deal of his young, rapidly ascending career. To round out the team, Dawson has also signed with TKO Artist Management, joining a roster that includes Toby Keith, Jamey Johnson, Clay Walker, Jackson Dean, and the late, great Glen Campbell and Chris LeDoux.
If the name doesn’t ring a bell yet, give it a week. Dawson’s debut single, “Might Be In It,” drops Friday, May 15 — and based on the buzz, this kid isn’t sneaking up on anyone for long.
A Patient Bet on a Sure Thing
Most teenagers handed a major-label offer would sign before the pen hit the page. Not Colton. According to Warner Records Nashville Chair & President Cris Lacy, Dawson asked the label to hold off on any offer until his debut album — produced with hit songwriter Roger Springer and GRAMMY-winning engineer-producer Chuck Ainlay — was fully in the can.
“This desire for his label partner to love not only the buzz around his talent, but every note of his music, demonstrated a fearlessness and a commitment to a vision that is the hallmark of all great artists,” Lacy said. “We are proud to be on this rocketship with him.”
That kind of artistic confidence at 19 is rare. The kind that gets two standing ovations at the Ryman, solo, with nothing but a guitar? Even rarer.
The Ryman Moment That Started It All
Dawson first made waves with a surprise opening slot for Clay Walker at a sold-out Ryman Auditorium show. Two standing ovations later, Nashville was paying attention. Since then, he’s opened for a who’s-who of modern country — Hardy, Lainey Wilson, Cody Johnson, Josh Turner, Braxton Keith, and Jake Worthington among them.
His influences read like a Mount Rushmore of the real stuff: Merle Haggard, Keith Whitley, Randy Travis, Vince Gill. And it shows. Dawson’s silky vocals and old-soul phrasing make his sound feel familiar in the best way — like a song you swear you’ve heard before but somehow never have.
“As soon as I first met the folks over at Warner Records Nashville, I knew it was the team I wanted to work with to make the music I love,” Dawson said. “Since before I learned to walk, I’ve been obsessed with country music, so I look forward to carrying on the sound my heroes established. God Bless Country Music.”
TKO President TK Kimbrell echoed the excitement: “It’s rare that artists come along and totally stun you. Colton Dawson did that for us at TKO. We believe the future of Country music is strong in the hands of artists like Colton and look forward to the ride.”
What’s Next
With Warner Records Nashville behind the rollout and TKO steering the career, all signs point to a breakout summer. “Might Be In It” arrives May 15, with the Springer/Ainlay-produced debut album expected to follow.
