Self Deception Unleash Explosive New Single “BREAK!” Ahead of “One Of Us” Album Out May 15 via Napalm Records

Swedish modern rock heavyweights Self Deception aren’t here to play nice. The Stockholm-based four-piece have just dropped their brand-new single “BREAK!” — a heavy-hitting, hook-stuffed anthem that lands only days before their highly anticipated new album, One Of Us, arrives this Friday, May 15, via Napalm Records.

If you’ve been waiting for a song that fuses pummeling drums, riff-forward guitars, electronic flourishes, and a chorus engineered to be screamed back from the back row of every European festival field this summer — congratulations, “BREAK!” is the soundtrack to your summer breakdown. In the best way possible.

Vocalist Andreas Clark says the song is a portrait of a very specific kind of human chaos: “We all know that person. The one who made chaos their comfort, who can’t feel love unless it hurts, ’cause pain’s the only proof it’s real. One side writes poetry, the other lights the pages on fire. Passionate but poisonous, begging for peace while starting wars, addicted to the drama, torn clean down the middle of who they are.”

Translation: you probably dated them. Or you are them. Either way, the pit is open.

The single follows in the slipstream of Self Deception’s viral 2022 hit “Fight Fire With Gasoline,” which racked up tens of millions of streams and firmly planted the band on the international rock radar. Since their 2009 debut, they’ve shared stages with the likes of Electric Callboy, Danko Jones, and Adept, sharpening the kind of live show that makes festival bookers nod knowingly.

Written on the road during the heaviest touring run of their career, One Of Us is a record built for the stage — and the pit. “Touring so much has put us in a kind of ‘live bubble,’ and that feeling runs through the songwriting,” the band explains. “The album revolves around outsidership and the desire to belong. On tour, we meet many lost and lonely people, all seeking a few hours of escape where they can disappear into a rock show. With One Of Us, we want everyone to feel part of something bigger, to feel like one of us.”

The 11-track album opens with the bone-crushing title track “ONE OF US,” a hardcore-tinged statement of intent, before barreling into the hit-chorus territory of “TIME’S UP,” the emotionally weighty “DON’T B E L O N G” (which tackles addiction and mental health head-on), the breakdown-heavy “ENTERTAINED,” and the powerful closer “GODDAMN ME.” The cover artwork comes courtesy of Alex Tillbrook — yes, the same artist behind work for Stranger Things, Metallica, Blink-182, and Sleep Token.
