VIDEO: Vernon – “Black Eye”

Vernon, a member of the K-pop group Seventeen, has released his single “Black Eye.” The song is a pop punk track with a raw and open tone, set to a rhythmic and airy instrumental. It tells the story of a young person struggling to cope with the constantly changing world around them. The accompanying music video, which has a hand-held camcorder aesthetic, visually captures the feelings of loneliness, rebelliousness, and self-doubt that often arise during the process of growing up. Vernon is the third member of Seventeen to release a mixtape as part of the group’s “The Thirteen Tapes” series, following Hoshi’s “Spider” in April 2021 and Woozi’s “Ruby” in January 2022. Despite his role as a member of Seventeen’s hip-hop unit, Vernon has also demonstrated his talents as a solo artist through collaborations with Charli XCX on a remix of “Beg For You” in February and a feature on Omega Sapien’s “Wrecker” in June.
