Carnifex Sign to Sumerian Records and Unleash New Single “Roses and Rotting Corpses”

Twenty years deep into a career built on punishing heaviness and pitch-black atmosphere, Carnifex are not exactly the type to coast. The Southern California deathcore institution announced today that they have officially signed to Sumerian Records, and to make sure no one mistook the news for a quiet handshake deal, they hurled a brand new single into the void to mark the occasion. Meet “Roses and Rotting Corpses.”

The track is exactly the kind of statement of intent you would hope for from a band entering a new chapter. It is heavy in the way Carnifex have always been heavy, all blackened menace and apocalyptic weight, but there is a sharper edge here, a renewed sense of purpose that suggests the next album is going to hit like a freight train through a graveyard. If this single is the doorway into the new era, the room on the other side sounds genuinely terrifying.

“We’ve entered a new era of Carnifex, and I couldn’t be happier to do it with Sumerian Records,” the band shared in a statement. “Carnifex and the team at Sumerian have parallel histories going back nearly two decades, so to finally be working together on what will arguably be our best album is an incredible feeling. Our new song ‘Roses and Rotting Corpses’ is just the beginning of this next chapter.”

Since emerging in 2005, Carnifex have been one of the architects of American deathcore’s first wave, and they have steadily refused to stand still since. Across landmark records like Dead in My Arms, Hell Chose Me, Die Without Hope, Slow Death, World War X and Necromanteum, the band has pushed deeper into cinematic, melodic and blackened territory without ever softening the impact. They turn grief, anxiety, isolation and survival into something cathartic, which is a much more interesting trick than just being loud.
