Alligator Records Sweeps the 2026 Blues Music Awards with Seven Wins, Including Three Top Honors

If Alligator Records ever needed proof that the Chicago blues institution still has the sharpest teeth in the swamp, the 47th Annual Blues Music Awards just handed it over on a silver platter. On Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Memphis’s Cannon Center For The Performing Arts, The Blues Foundation handed out its annual honors — and Alligator artists walked away with seven awards, including three of the night’s most prestigious top prizes.

Leading the charge, world-renowned guitar slinger Ronnie Baker Brooks claimed the coveted B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year Award, cementing his status as one of the most electrifying live performers working in blues today. Anyone who has caught Brooks on stage knows the trophy is well-earned — the man treats every show like it’s the last one on earth.

The night’s biggest story, though, may belong to young blues phenomenon D.K. Harrell, whose critically acclaimed Alligator debut Talkin’ Heavy pulled double duty, winning both Blues Album Of The Year and Contemporary Blues Album Of The Year. Not bad for a guy who is just getting started. Give the record a spin and hear exactly why the Blues Foundation couldn’t stop saying his name:

Tommy Castro of Tommy Castro & The Painkillers added two more to the tally, taking home Song Of The Year for “Can’t Catch A Break” (from his album Closer To The Bone), co-written with Christoffer “Kid” Andersen of Rick Estrin & The Nightcats. Castro also walked off with Blues Rock Artist Of The Year — a category he’s owned for years and clearly isn’t ready to relinquish.

Rounding out the haul, Derrick “D’mar” Martin, the rhythmic engine behind Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, took Best Instrumentalist–Drums, while the legendary Marcia Ball was named Best Instrumentalist–Piano. Ball had even more to celebrate, as she was also inducted into The Blues Foundation’s Hall Of Fame — a long-overdue acknowledgment of one of the genre’s most beloved keyboard players and bandleaders.
