Emma Ogier Drops Tender New Single “Believing” Ahead of Stella Lefty Tour Opener

Some songs sneak up on you. “Believing,” the new single from Houston-born, Nashville-based songwriter Emma Ogier, is one of them. Out today via Lost Highway Records, it’s the kind of track that feels like a whispered confession across a kitchen table at 2 a.m. — quiet, a little scared, and absolutely sure of itself.

“‘Believing’ is about the fear that comes with chasing something risky and unknown while believing enough to know you can’t walk away,” Ogier explains. “Love leads to loss. Loss leads to rebirth. This cycle connects us all. It’s a song for the letter knife on the counter and the spit you use to seal an envelope. There’s danger in everything, even love. But without danger, nothing means much.”

That sense of beautiful peril runs through the song’s accompanying video, directed by Joey Brodnax (moony, Briston Maroney). Shot in Nashville, it’s a shimmering slice of summer — Ogier singing in the middle of a creek, sketching expansive black-and-white illustrations by daylight, and dancing through nights lit by string lights and fireworks. It plays like a Polaroid you forgot was in the drawer.

“Believing” follows “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” the bold, emotionally-charged single that opened a new chapter for Ogier earlier this year. Both tracks were written by Ogier and produced by David Baron (The Lumineers, Michael Marcagi, Jade Bird), and together they highlight the raw vulnerability and sharp, contemplative songwriting that has become her calling card — a rich blend of alternative pop and Americana that nods to classic songwriters while sounding completely her own.

Ogier first discovered songwriting during the pandemic, channeling teenage isolation into lyrics that walk the line between abstract reflection and plainspoken truth. As The Luna Collective put it, her songs “make you feel. They are feel-good upon first listen and contemplative once the lyrics settle in.” She’s currently at work on her debut album.

Before that arrives, there’s plenty of road ahead. Ogier opens for Stella Lefty at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles on May 13, plays Nashville’s Musicians Corner alongside SG Goodman and Braison Cyrus on June 12, then heads across the pond for the inaugural State Fayre festival in Chelmsford, UK on June 26. She’ll cap the year with a slot during Weekend One of Austin City Limits Music Festival (October 2–4).
