Evergrey Drop Cathartic Third Single “Leaving The Emptiness” Ahead of June 5 Album “Architects Of A New Weave”

Gothenburg’s reigning masterminds of melancholia, Evergrey, are not letting up as they barrel toward the June 5 release of their fifteenth studio album, Architects Of A New Weave, via Napalm Records. The Swedish progressive metal veterans have just unveiled their third single and accompanying music video, “Leaving The Emptiness” — and it’s the kind of cathartic, chest-rattling anthem that reminds you exactly why Evergrey have remained essential more than three decades into their career.

Where past singles leaned into the band’s signature darkness, “Leaving The Emptiness” pierces through the gloom. The chorus erupts like sunlight breaking through storm clouds — euphoric, major-key, and absolutely massive — while the lyrics dig their heels into something far heavier. It’s the sound of a band that has learned how to turn its inner fire into something genuinely unstoppable.

Frontman Tom S. Englund describes the duality at the heart of the track: “Our new single is a high-energy firecracker that makes you want to jump — we know, because we just played it in Brazil twice and people were more in the air than on the ground. But don’t let the adrenaline fool you. Underneath the surge is something rawer — a song about the moment you stop running from what hurts and finally turn to face it.” That tension — joy and ache in the same breath — is exactly what Evergrey have always done best, and “Leaving The Emptiness” might be the most distilled version of it yet.

Architects Of A New Weave was produced by Englund and Vikram Shankar, with the mix handled by Adam “Nolly” Getgood. The twelve-track album also features a guest vocal turn from fellow Gothenburg icon Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity, The Halo Effect, Grand Cadaver, Cemetery Skyline) on the song “A Burning Flame,” pairing two of the scene’s most distinctive voices in a way long-time fans will not want to miss. Deluxe formats include a bonus album with extra tracks “Heights” and “One Heart,” an album mix of the 2025 standalone single “OXYGEN!”, a demo version of “Longing,” instrumentals, and a live take on “Falling From The Sun.”

Englund, for his part, is not playing it cool about this one: “We’ve literally never had this much trouble picking singles. And honestly? That’s the best problem we could possibly have. Every song on this record is fighting to be the one you hear first.”

The album drops just days before Evergrey hit the stage as special guests to Iron Maiden on two dates of the Run For Your Lives World Tour, before a stacked European festival run that includes Sweden Rock, Mystic Festival, Graspop Metal Meeting, and Rockstadt Extreme Fest. North American fans get their turn this fall, when the band joins HammerFall as special guests on the Freedom World Crusade tour, running from September 11 in Atlanta through October 8 in Seattle.
