A Country-Disco Glow-Up

“Crisco” blends classic country soul with a shimmering ’70s disco shine, leaning on lush strings, jangly piano keys, and a groove that practically begs you to push the coffee table out of the way. It’s Miranda dipping into sonic textures she’s long admired but never quite committed to tape — until now.

“It has so many elements of the country music that I love that I’ve never put on tape,” Lambert says of the song, co-written with Aaron Raitiere, Jesse Frasure, and Chill Fellacheck. “There’s a looseness to it, a joy. It feels like dancing in your kitchen with the person you love, spinning old records, not overthinking a thing.”

Nods to the Classics, Eyes on the Future

Lambert’s signature playful wink is all over this one. With vivid, nostalgic imagery, “Crisco” tips its hat to timeless cuts like “Southern Nights” and “Islands in the Stream,” bridging generations of country while sliding into something refreshingly new. It’s the kind of song that feels like a back-porch memory and a Saturday-night dance floor at the same time.

A New Chapter at MCA

The single marks Miranda’s first release under MCA, the modern country home led by Mike Harris and Chief Creative Officer Dave Cobb. She joins a roster that includes Chris Stapleton, Reba, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Carrie Underwood, and longtime peers like Little Big Town and Dierks Bentley.

It’s a fitting move for an artist who, as Variety put it, has a “groundedness in the classic sounds and attitudes of country music” that has made her arguably the most valuable mainstream country figure of the last quarter-century. With 14 CMA Awards, three GRAMMYs, and a record-setting ACM trophy case (including Entertainer of the Year), Lambert has long built her career on authenticity and evolution. “Crisco” simply cracks the door open a little wider.

Mark Your Calendar

“Crisco” hits all DSPs on May 15. Cue it up, grease the pan, and let Miranda do the rest.
