Girl Tones Bare Their Teeth on New Single “Stubborn Mouth” — Plus Tour Dates with The Rare Occasions

Some bands write songs about other people. Girl Tones write songs about themselves — and they’re not pulling any punches. The sister-fronted rock duo of Kenzie and Laila returned today (May 1, 2026) with “Stubborn Mouth,” a fuzzy, taunting new single out via Parallel Vision and Big Loud Rock that doubles as a vulnerable bit of self-roasting.

Delivered in that signature singsong sneer they’ve made their calling card, “Stubborn Mouth” is Girl Tones doing what Girl Tones do best: turning a personal flaw into a hook you can’t shake. “This song is a vulnerable reflection on being headstrong and how it can ultimately deteriorate your own well-being and others around you,” the band shared. In other words: yes, they know. No, they’re not going to stop.

The single arrives with an official video directed by Austin Dickerson, in which the duo prowl the wood-paneled walls of a retro house and, naturally, take a bite straight out of the forbidden fruit. It’s the kind of clip that pairs perfectly with the song’s mix of menace and mischief — equal parts riot grrrl side-eye and pop-rock sugar rush.

The track follows January’s “Volcano,” which dropped alongside Girl Tones’ inclusion on Amazon Music’s Artists to Watch in 2026 list — a spot they share with the likes of Fcukers, Florence Road, Folk Bitch Trio, and NewDad. Produced under the wing of Cage The Elephant’s Brad Shultz, the duo have already earned nods from Rolling Stone, VICE, Consequence, PAPER, NME, DORK, and SPIN, with Rolling Stone noting that “while the White Stripes — their most obvious comparison — were about controlled energy, Girl Tones are proudly imperfect.”

That imperfection translates to one of the most riotous live shows going right now. Girl Tones have already toured this year with Dexter and The Moonrocks and Peter McPoland, hit SXSW and Treefort, and now they’re staring down a festival run that includes The Great Escape, Bottlerock, Outside Days, Bonnaroo, and Just Like Heaven. Newly announced: a run of dates supporting The Rare Occasions.
