Keith Urban Trades Stadium Anthems for Sunscreen on New Yacht Rock Album “Flow State,” Out June 12

Pour the piña colada, slap on the SPF 50, and tell your boss you’re taking the afternoon off — Keith Urban is going full yacht rock.

The Grammy-winning country superstar announced his 13th studio album, Flow State, due out June 12 via MCA. And no, this isn’t a “country meets the ocean” gimmick album. Urban is fully committing to the smooth, breezy, captain’s-hat-and-loafers genre that soundtracked your parents’ best summers — and he’s brought a few iconic friends along for the cruise.

Produced by Urban and longtime collaborator Dann Huff at Urban’s “The Sound” studio in Nashville, Flow State leans into the timeless catalog of ’70s and ’80s soft rock with covers of “Summer Breeze,” “Baby Come Back,” “Just the Two of Us,” “Magnet and Steel,” “How Much I Feel,” and more. Tucked alongside the classics is one shiny new original — “We Go Back,” a duet with the silky-voiced architect of yacht rock himself, Michael McDonald. Little Big Town joins the fun on “Magnet and Steel,” and John Mayer pulls up dockside for “Guitar Man.”

“The origins of this kind of music was, in certain ways, a reaction and an antidote to the stresses of the times,” Urban said in a statement. “Its sole mission (and soul mission) is unchanged… to bring us together and remind us that life is happening NOW — the eternal now — and we have far more in common than not. I hope wherever you hear this album you can feel the exhale, comfort and optimism these songs were originally written by and for.”

Honestly? After the year most of us have had, an exhale sounds about right.

To set the mood, Urban dropped two tracks today: his rendition of the Seals & Crofts standard “Summer Breeze” and the McDonald-assisted original “We Go Back.” Both are streaming now, and both are exactly the kind of windows-down, no-shoes-required listening the season demands.

Urban isn’t just lounging on the lido deck either — he’s got a packed run of shows this summer. He’ll headline ACM Next Wave: Country’s Beach Bash at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on May 16 as part of the 61st ACM Awards Week, alongside Flatland Cavalry, Ashley Cooke, Dasha, Braxton Keith, and Tucker Wetmore. Then he hits Nissan Stadium on June 5 for CMA Fest 2026, with festival stops at Gulf Coast Jam, Country Summer Music Festival, Country Thunder Wisconsin, Big Valley Jamboree, and a residency at Fontainebleau Las Vegas in October.

Tonight, he’s also playing an intimate show at The Mil at Cannery Hall in Nashville — tickets are box-office only, so good luck out there.
