Volbeat Break Their Own Record With 13th #1 on Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart for “Demonic Depression”

Who knocked Volbeat off the top of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart? Volbeat. Again.

The Danish rock juggernauts have officially scored their 13th No. 1 single on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart with “Demonic Depression,” extending a record they already owned as the artist with the most chart-toppers originating from outside North America. If the math feels dizzying, that’s because Volbeat keep rewriting their own history book — and they’re showing no signs of slowing down.

“Demonic Depression” is the third No. 1 to come off the band’s ninth studio album, God of Angels Trust, joining “By a Monster’s Hand” and “Time Will Heal” at the summit. Three singles, three trips to the top — that’s a batting average most bands would trade a tour bus for.

With this latest milestone, Volbeat are now tied for the sixth-most No. 1s in the chart’s history (which dates back to 1981), sharing the rarefied air with Van Halen, Godsmack, Disturbed, Linkin Park, and Papa Roach. Not bad for a band that started in the clubs of Copenhagen.

For the longtime fans keeping a tally at home, Volbeat first claimed the “most No. 1s by a non-North American artist” crown back in March 2020 when “Die To Live” (featuring Clutch’s Neil Fallon) became their eighth chart-topper. Five more No. 1s later, the lead is only growing.

Frontman Michael Poulsen, drummer Jon Larsen, bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen, and lead guitarist Flemming C Lund are about to take this winning streak on the road, kicking off the fourth leg of their Greatest Of All Tours Worldwide across Europe. Expect the new chart-topper to hit hard in the live set.
