Gretchen Wilson Returns to Her Roots With New Single “Redneck Shit” Out May 1, 2026
Twenty-some years after “Redneck Woman” turned every honky-tonk jukebox into a battle cry, Gretchen Wilson is doubling down on the sound, the swagger, and the sentiment that made her a household name. On May 1, 2026, the GRAMMY-winning Illinois firecracker drops “Redneck Shit,” a rowdy return to form and her first single under a brand-new partnership between her Redneck Records label and Thirty Tigers.
If the title alone hasn’t told you what kind of song this is, the lyrics will finish the job. Co-written by Wilson alongside Jacob Summers, Krista Marie Oswald, and Sarah Beth Terry — and co-produced by Gretchen with Ryan Nelson — “Redneck Shit” is a backyard-bar, mud-flingin’, Hank-crankin’ anthem packed with grit, humor, and downhome pride. The chorus hammers it home with the kind of stick-in-your-head simplicity that made her early hits inescapable: “This is redneck shit / It ain’t got no quit.” The bridge soars into full patriotic flair with “Country / Where the eagle flies across American skies,” because of course it does. This is Gretchen Wilson, after all.
“This song is gonna hit listeners exactly the same way ‘Redneck Woman’ did 20 years ago!” Wilson said of the new track. “But this one isn’t just for the girls… it’s for anybody and everybody who ever wanted to wear a pair of muddy boots and get stupid in the country!”
It’s been a banner stretch for Wilson, who isn’t so much making a comeback as reminding everyone she never actually left. Over the last year alone, she won Season 13 of FOX’s “The Masked Singer,” appeared front-and-center as the tour manager on the hit Taylor Sheridan, Blake Shelton, and Keith Urban-produced CBS series “The Road,” and lit up “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.” She’s currently in the studio re-recording her breakout “Here for the Party” album with a special guest artist on each song, and she kicked off 2026 on her aptly named “Still Here for the Party” Tour.
Add in a TikTok account that has racked up millions of views thanks to her unfiltered, fan-engaged, and frequently hilarious posts, and the timing for a song called “Redneck Shit” feels less like a left turn and more like a victory lap. With over eight million records sold and a trophy case stuffed with hardware from the CMA, ACM, CMT, AMA, Billboard Music Awards, and the Recording Academy, Wilson has the catalog to back up the bravado — and “Redneck Shit” sounds like she knows it.
