Dalton Davis Delivers a True Country Cryin’ Song With New Single “Blue”
Dalton Davis is leaning all the way into the heartache on his latest single, “Blue,” out today via MCA / Republic Records. The Gastonia, North Carolina native—now firmly planted in Nashville—is making the case that the old-school country cryin’ song still has plenty of life left in it, and he might just be the guy to prove it.
“‘Blue’ is about the music and roots of what we do in country music,” Davis says of the new track. “It’s not just sadness, it’s everything feeling heavier, quieter, and somehow frozen in time. I wanted this song to feel like you’re stuck in a moment you can’t quite move on from. ‘Blue’ is a true country cryin’ song.”
And he’s not bluffing. Built around a slow-burning melody and the kind of vivid imagery that’s become Davis’s calling card, “Blue” captures that disorienting morning-after feeling when the world keeps spinning but you’re stuck in the rearview. The refrain says it all: “It’s a blue feelin’, watchin’ you leavin’, deep as the ocean, all in slow motion.” It’s the sonic equivalent of staring at a half-empty coffee cup at 2 p.m. and wondering where the day went.

The new single keeps the momentum rolling after a breakout stretch for Davis. He recently dropped the rowdier “Redneck and You Know It,” a high-octane counterpoint to “Blue” that celebrates the rural roots that shaped him. Earlier this year, his song “Fireproof”—co-written by Landman star Billy Bob Thornton alongside Nashville heavyweights Ronnie Bowman and Mark Collie—landed on the Landman (Songs From and Inspired By The Paramount+ Original Series) Volume II soundtrack. Last year’s “Cows In The Front Yard” announced his arrival on MCA / Republic in style.
Davis’s path to Music Row reads like a country song in itself: born in rural North Carolina, adopted by touring gospel artists, schooled in the studio by hip-hop engineers, and seasoned by years grinding it out in Chattanooga before the Nashville move. That patchwork upbringing is exactly why his sound hits the way it does—outlaw grit on the outside, soul on the inside. He’s already shared stages with Kameron Marlowe, Brantley Gilbert, Midland, Ashley McBryde, Gary Allan, and Dwight Yoakam, and 2026 is shaping up to keep him plenty busy on the road.
